Why it’s important to me to combine ENERGY HEALING with MENTAL HEALTH COACHING when working with highly sensitive kids, teens and parents

1.      I believe sensitive kids need support that is customized to their unique situation.  One size never fits all, especially in our highly sensitive population!

2.      I believe “treatment” has to address the root cause of a problem or challenge.  If it does not, it is merely a band aid.  For example, if a child is sensitive to energy, psychotherapy alone is not going to solve their problems: they need tools to manage their energy.  Similarly, if a child has a genetic component to their struggles (perhaps a family history of neurodivergence or mental illness), then they may need a holistic approach which incorporates their brain and body.  If someone is chronically anxious because of a history of trauma and they don’t take time to safely process that trauma, they risk retraumatizing themselves with an approach that promises results but is actually too jarring for their sensitive system.

3.      Incorporating intuition and connection to spirit into our healing work, means that I am NOT operating on my own agenda.  I am offering my skills in service of your highest healing path, without intrusion from my ego.  The Intuition Medicine® model is about you connecting with your own wisdom and healing energy.

4.      I want to avoid spiritual bypassing.  In my experience, some people just want to “clear their energy” and not actually deal with the day-to-day reality of their emotional and relational struggles.  I get it, no one really wants to face the stuff that feels bad, but it never just “goes away.” Rather, it tends to get acted out over and over again until we heal in the ways our sensitive body, mind and heart need.

5.      Also, I want to avoid endless hours of processing our problems without actually seeing any changes!  Talk therapy, art therapy and even play therapy can inadvertently lead some of us to spend too much time either ruminating or dissociating from our bodies.  Conversely, some body-based approaches to psychotherapy can push us past our ability to cope effectively by flooding us with memories or overwhelming us to the point where we cannot function.  Therapeutic techniques have a lot to offer if they are a good fit for a given person and challenge, but they aren’t always what is needed to help a sensitive person thrive.

For over 20 years I have worked in both the fields of energy medicine and psychotherapy/mental health, though much of that has been on separate paths. The psychotherapy license is very strict about what is okay to call "therapy", which is why I branched out into coaching a few years ago so that I could serve in the way that I feel called to offer services. So many of us who are highly sensitive benefit from services which are "outside the box," because we just don't fit into a one-size-fits-all approach. I love the mental health field and feel it has so much to offer, AND I love working in the field of energy medicine, which has so much to offer in a different way. BOTH provide tools to further our growth and healing, and using my intuition allows me to give my clients a personalized service that is tailored to each family member's unique needs. If this resonates with you, send me an email or book a discovery call! I’d love to talk with you.
